Minnesota, Land of Shy Guys and Lonely Women

So have you ever dated someone you didn’t like out of sheer loneliness?

 

I’m not going to answer that question directly for you today. But, I was reading the Minneapolis Star Tribune newspaper today and according to a study done by OkCupid.com, many in Minnesota do. OkCupid has made the determination that Minnesota has the nation’s loneliest women and its shyest men. I believe that I knew this anyway just from living here for so long. I just thought it was a normal trend among people of my particular age group. (Either that or everyone is gay.)

 

More than 12,000 men and 9,000 women from the state of Minnesota (NO, I DIDN’T PARTICIPATE IN THE QUESTIONNAIRE) answered questionnaires to determine compatability at the website, and from there this data has been compiled - and, WU HU - Minnesota won.

 

Evidentally, the reason people up here aren’t "hooking up" together is because "we DON’T ACT when we see someone we like." They put the blame directly on lower self-image as a part of the problem. 

 

Among other interesting findings in this survey: New York has the kinkiest men, while Massachusetts and Minnesota rank 1-2 in "most interested in politics."

 

So, thus far, we have learned this: Minnesota ranks number one for shy men and lonely women, and number 2 as most interested in politics. WELL, TO ME WE SOUND LIKE A BUNCH OF FUDDY-DUDDIES DON’T YOU THINK???!!! Boring, old, fuddy-duddies, and I blame it on the long, long and cold winters up here - seriously.

 

However, there is a solution for our "rut." They say that "women should step out and make a move." That strikes me as funny because that will probably never happen with Minnesotans – as we are way too reserved. That is, unless you get us drunk, and then watch out.

I wonder if this is why I have five cats????????  I can think of a lot worse alternatives! I mean really… (fades off for a moment to contemplate this possibility…. NAW!)

In honor of all the lonely people in my home state, I changed the music to "One Is the Loneliest Number," by one of my favorite bands ever: Three Dog Night.

And horray for me: I got my vacuum cleaner fixed. I thought I’d share that follow up bit of news. However, it’s a major "zen moment" when I get something fixed like that. Especially when I’m allergic to dust and whenever you rip apart the vacuum cleaner, dust puffs out in billows at me, and right up my nose and in my eyes and on my skin. It’s all very uncomfortable and itchy.

Also, I am watching, for the fourth season, "Dancing with the Stars!" I love that show! I truly do hope that Heather Mills stays upright on her feet, and that her leg stays on this season! I don’t want to see her leg fly off across the dance floor. I thought she did very well considering her disability.
